I design ways to learn, care, and make with technology.
I usually start with a question, then make something to think with. I’m drawn to the idea that people understand things differently when they can build, manipulate, test, and remake them.
I like designing interactions that make thinking visible, turn abstract ideas into something tangible, and leave room for people to explore. I also like prototyping early, because a question rarely stays the same once it has a form.
Sometimes that means coding an interface, sometimes building with sensors and physical materials, and sometimes using motion, games, or visual systems to see how an idea behaves in practice.
So I move pretty freely between design and implementation. I care less about committing to one medium than about finding the form that gives an idea the right kind of friction, feedback, and possibility for exploration.
I like ideas best when they stop being explanations and start becoming experiences.
What shaped the way I make.
01 / UC Davis
I first learned to give ideas form.
At Davis, I learned to think through form, composition, space, objects, and interaction — turning ideas into things people could see, navigate, and experience. From a letter on a page to an object in a space, I was learning how design gives an idea a presence.
02 / Penn
Later, I began to rethink what design was really doing.
At Penn, I became less interested in the artifact alone, and more interested in the activity unfolding around it.
Form⟶Activity
Design was not only about giving form to an idea.
It could also shape how people act, explore, and work through something together.
Product⟶Shared situations
Interaction was not only a moment between a person and a product.
It was often distributed across people, tools, roles, and shared situations.
Smoothness⟶Sense-making
And learning did not only happen when everything worked smoothly.
Sometimes it happened in uncertainty, in negotiation, and in trying to make sense of something not yet resolved.
That shift changed the question I wanted design to answer:
Not onlywhat should we make?
But alsowhat can it make possible?
03 / Now
Now I like working somewhere in between.
I design and build interactive experiences while thinking about what people can do, understand, make, and discover through them.
